Privacy
Last updated: 19 October 2026.
Caretaker looks at your files on your own Mac and keeps what it learns there. It has no account, no analytics and no tracking, and it never sends anything about your files anywhere. This page lists everything it does connect to.
Who is responsible
Caretaker is made by SIALK LTD, a company registered in England and Wales, number 17427982, the data controller under UK GDPR. Contact: privacy@sialk.net.
The app
- Your files stay on your Mac. Scans, sizes, Cleaning History and everything Caretaker remembers are kept in your own Library, nowhere else.
- Updates to Caretaker. About once a day Caretaker asks caretakermac.com whether a newer version exists. The request carries nothing about you; the server sees your IP address, as any website does.
- Updates to your other apps. App Updates asks each app's own update server whether it has a newer version, the way the app itself would, and asks Apple's App Store which of your App Store apps have updates, by their app identifiers. Nothing else is sent.
- Pro licence. Entering a code sends it to sialk.net once, with an id for your Mac: a one-way hash of its hardware id, so the id itself never leaves your Mac. About once a day, while you have Pro, Caretaker asks sialk.net whether its key still stands, so that a refunded purchase loses Pro. The request carries the key, which holds the email you bought with; the answer is only yes or no. If your Mac hasn't been able to check for 60 days, Pro pauses until it can.
- Notifications are made on your Mac and go nowhere else.
Buying Pro
Buying Pro happens on Polar's checkout page. Polar Software, Inc. is the seller of record: it collects your name, email, country and payment details, charges you, sends the receipt and handles the tax. Caretaker's maker never sees your card. Polar tells sialk.net the order number and your email, so your licence code can be made and sent. Polar's notice: polar.sh/legal/privacy.
Your licence code is emailed to you from sialk.net through Resend, an email service acting as our processor, which sees the address and the text of the email. Their notice: resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.
This website
No cookies, no analytics service, no tracking. The site counts two things, so we know whether anyone comes: one visit per browser session, and each click on Download. Only a number per day goes up, on sialk.net's server; nothing about you, not even your IP address, is kept with it. The site is hosted by Vercel Inc. in the United States, which receives your IP address and basic browser information when it serves a page, as any web host does, under its Data Processing Addendum and standard contractual clauses. Their notice: vercel.com/legal/privacy-notice.
How long data is kept
A purchase's record is kept for as long as the licence is in use, and then for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
